Meta Platforms plans to test new subscription models for its apps, including Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp, in the coming months, TechCrunch reported on Tuesday.
A Meta spokesperson confirmed the report, saying the subscription is expected to “unlock more productivity and creativity” by giving paying users access to more features and expanded AI capabilities.
Meta’s recently acquired Manus suite of general-purpose artificial intelligence agents will also be expanded as part of the subscription plan. meta platform purchase Manus is a Singapore-based AI agency developer that launched in China in December and is reportedly valued at $2 billion.
With the new subscription plan, Meta is likely to seek a return on investment from its massive spending on AI talent and acquisitions last year (even before the Manus acquisition).
Although Meta has been developing large language models under the Llama umbrella, these models are open source. This means that general access to Llama remains free, unlike paid plans from AI leaders such as OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic.
Other features available as part of Meta’s paid plans may include full access to its AI-driven short-form video experience, Vibes, which allows users to create and remix AI-generated videos.
While Vibes has been free since its launch in 2025, the new subscription model will allow free access to its base version, with the option to pay for additional features.
Subscriptions will be separate from paid product Meta Verified Company launches in 2023 This provides content creators and businesses with a verified badge, 24/7 direct support, anti-impersonation protection, search optimization, and more.
Meta told TechCrunch it plans to listen to the user community and gather feedback as it launches the subscription service in the coming months.
