Mayweather’s $340M lawsuit escalates, Adrien Broner defends Al Haymon

Broner, a former multiple-division titleholder whose career took a turn after a promotion adjustment and fifth loss to Blair Cobbs, attached that quote to his thoughts on how Haymon handled him during a cash crunch early in his career.

“I know he did something for me that no one would do if he owed me money, and oh man, he gave me the satisfaction. I would never get on a merry-go-round for revenge; that’s just the way it is. See you soon…”

Broner’s loyalty reopened his financial history with Haymon in a lawsuit that tests boxing’s broadcast economics.

For years, Broner described Haymon as an adviser and protector, a refrain often heard from warriors whose wallets swelled during peak cycles of network licensing fees. That history fractured in 2022 when Broner publicly expressed his dissatisfaction and severed ties with Premier League Champions before having brief stints under BLK Prime and Don King. Activity slows down. Matchmaking selection narrowed.

Veteran journalist Dan Raphael circulated documents related to the Mayweather case and cited industry discussions pointing to a private settlement involving Haymon, although it has not been confirmed.

Matchmaker Rick Glaser made a more pointed point when discussing the case. “Floyd is not suing Al Haymon because Al Haymon settled out of court… He is suing Showtime and Steven Espinoza.”

Stephen Espinoza, former president of Showtime Sports “Beat Compass”“I haven’t seen the document,” Espinosa said. “I’ve seen the report, I’ve seen the description, and as usual, the attorneys don’t want me to speak publicly about it. I’m definitely disappointed and surprised. I’m not sure exactly where it came from. It’s a mystery in a lot of ways.”

The lawsuit focuses on broadcast revenue at a time when licensing fees no longer flow as freely as they once did, shrinking negotiating space for veterans trying to make a comeback. Broner, now no longer active, has linked his name to Haymon, and the financial structure that once supported the two men faces legal scrutiny.
