England fast bowler Mark Wood is ready to meet a knee specialist in London to assess the recurring injury to his left knee that brought an abrupt end to his 2025-26 Ashes season in Australia last month.

Mark Wood has been ruled out of the recent five-match Test series of the 2025-26 Ashes series in Australia due to a reoccurring left knee problem. His knee has been struggling for some time. Injuries first bothered him during the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.

Later, the veteran fast bowler even underwent surgery to fix the problem. Although he returned to competition, his knee was still bothering him and the tough conditions in Australia only made things worse.

Wood was clearly not feeling well during the first Ashes Test in Perth. The Englishman bowled just 11 balls in Perth and looked miserable during the runs. Therefore, England decided not to play him in the second Test in Brisbane.

Wood’s Ashes season sadly came to an end without proper testing as knee problems flared up again. Subsequently, England lost to Australia 1-4 in the Ashes Cup series.

Mark Wood to meet with knee specialist, career facing big question

According to the Daily Mail, Mark Wood will meet with a knee specialist in London on Friday (January 16). Fortius Clinic’s renowned knee surgeons Andy Williams and Simon Ball, who have treated Wood for many years, will fully assess the injury, understand the damage and prepare a clear recovery and rehabilitation plan.

This assessment will also be important for Wood’s future as it will help him understand whether he can continue to play international cricket and how long his recovery may take.

When knee injury left Wood ‘heartbroken’

Wood wrote on Instagram: “I was devastated going into the rest of the Ashes. After extensive surgery, seven long and grueling months of work and rehabilitation to get back to the Test pitch, my knee just wouldn’t hold up. None of us expected this to happen. I came in with high expectations and hoped to make a huge impact. I’m extremely disappointed and despite more injections and intensive medical treatment, it became clear that the condition of my knee was more serious than feared.”

The bowler added, “I’m really sorry that this has prevented me from performing as well as I expected, but it’s not for lack of trying. Whatever happens, I will continue to push the envelope and come back again. It’s been a tough road over the last few months but I’m still determined to give it one more try. I still believe we can turn things around. Never give in. Come on, England.”
