Manchester United Now looking to get ahead of the competition for ‘outstanding’ players, Michael Carrick Personally I am an admirer.
Manchester United eyeing new signings amid Carrick’s perfect start
Few could have predicted Carrick’s start as United manager, with the 44-year-old winning his first three games, but Gary Neville insists he should not keep the job permanently regardless of his performances.
Neville explain: “In my opinion, Michael shouldn’t get the job at the end of the season. It’s really unemotional for me to say that, right?
“It has nothing to do with what happened two weeks ago and to be fair I agree with Roy, no one is going to mention Michael for the job, right? If you want to earn your stripes and manage one of the biggest clubs in the world and deal with the pressure that’s going to be put on you, I think you personally have to have those years of experience.”
Whether Carrick emerges as a contender for the job remains to be seen, but whoever becomes the next permanent manager will be looking to bring in Casemiro’s replacement this summer, when the Brazilian’s contract expires.
According to Spanish reports, Manchester United look to stay ahead of rivals in race for Club Brugge’s Aleksandar StankovicTottenham Hotspur have also named the midfielder as a key target.
The Belgian side are in a strong position in negotiations as Stankovic’s contract does not expire until 2029, but “everything points to” a move to Belgium Premier League May appear on the card.
While it’s unclear whether Carrick will stay at Old Trafford beyond the summer, the report makes it clear that he is a big fan of the Club Brugge star and sees him as an “ideal” midfield target.
Stankovic could be ‘phenomenal’ long-term signing
The 20-year-old’s performances for Club Brugge this season have certainly caught the eye, having been praised by scout Jacek Kulig on X back in October.
The Serbian primarily operates as a defensive midfielder but has proven himself to be a reliable source of goals and assists, contributing 11 goals in 36 appearances for Club Brugge.
The youngster performed particularly well in the Champions League against Marseille at the end of January, scoring a goal, adding two assists and making two interceptions as Bruges sealed a play-off spot.
Stankovic is therefore clearly a complete midfielder who could become an excellent long-term signing for United.
