Manchester City beat defending champions Chelsea 5-1 at the Etihad Stadium to open an 11-point lead at the top of the Women’s Super League table.
The result all but ended Chelsea’s bid to retain the title, the furthest they have been since the final day of the 2018-19 season when Arsenal were crowned champions.
Andree Jeglertz’s Manchester City are on a 13-game winning streak, dominating their opponents in a way that a team like Chelsea simply cannot. The visitors packed the midfield but were outclassed in the encounter, while also missing out on various chances. Defensive holes are everywhere.
Crolin opened the scoring for City from a second-period corner, deflecting Ellie Carpenter’s shot past Hannah Hampton. The second goal came after a midfield error and Viv Miedema seized her chance, feeding Bunny Shaw for her 107th goal in 125 appearances for City.

And City are far from done. Coralin completed her hat-trick with a brace after the break, both on the counter-attack, her pace unmatched by either Millie Bright or Naomi Gilma. After Alyssa Thompson scored a nice consolation goal, Miedema converted Kerstin Casparij’s corner kick into the goal.
The scoreline was emblematic of the gulf in the class on the day and in the wider WSL title race, with City on course for a first title in a decade and the Blues currently only good enough for third place. Incidentally, the last time Chelsea lost back-to-back league games was more than a decade ago. Bompastow’s side had fallen behind – and now they were certainly out of the hunt.
