Their Champions League fate hangs in the balance, with City currently in 22nd place and facing Paris Saint-Germain and Club Brugge in their final two games, where they may need at least a win. Perhaps most worryingly, Guardiola himself admits he doesn’t have the answers An obvious problem for the city.
“I’m not good enough””, he explained after the defeat to Manchester United. “I’m the boss. I’m the manager. I have to find a solution and so far I haven’t. That’s the reality.”
“There’s nothing to say. There’s no defense. Manchester United are very tenacious. We haven’t lost eight games in two seasons. We can’t defend.”
Some of those answers could come in the January transfer window, with City now seemingly keen to bolster their midfield with new signings.
Manchester City ready to bid for AC Milan midfielder
Meanwhile, a new report from Spain claims Manchester City are preparing a bold offer to sign AC Milan midfielder Tijani Reynders.
The Dutchman has enjoyed an outstanding season at San Siro, scoring three goals and providing two assists in 14 Serie A games this season.
His campaign has been called “insane” football analyst ben martinsonwho claimed on X that Reynders could be “one of the top 5 midfielders in form right now”.
The report claims that his performances caught the attention of Guardiola himself, who is “delighted to have him in” his squad and believes he will provide “freshness, balance and versatility” to the midfield.
To this end, Manchester City are prepared to offer “close to 50 million euros” (£41.3 million) to try to persuade him to switch from Milan to Manchester.
But they have to work hard and move fast; Reynders admitted last month that he was close to signing a new contract with Milanalthough most importantly it has not yet been signed.
“I’m ready to sign a new contract at AC Milan and I’m happy! It’s a big club and renewing after one season means a lot. I haven’t signed yet but we’re almost there.”
Will City change their mind and make an offer, or will Guardiola be forced to move on from the 26-year-old?
