Free-scoring Newcastle are up front for the Red Devils, and here’s the team Amorim can pick to face the Magpies on their final tour of the calendar year.
GK: Andre Onana – Onana enjoyed a fairly quiet 2024, but a few high-profile mistakes suddenly jolted his long-term United streak. Future in doubt. The club has no one in the reserves capable of competing with the current number one.
CB: Lenny Yoro – Yorou has been eased into his first campaign since recovering from a broken leg, and there are undoubtedly a few positive signs amid United’s woes.
CB: Harry Maguire – Maguire has been preferred over Matthijs de Ligt in the heart of United’s back three, and that is unlikely to change for the visit of Newcastle. The Englishman will see plenty of the red-hot Alexander Isak.
CB: Lisandro Martinez – The Argentine is a perfect fit for the role on paper, but Martinez has struggled so far in his second season at Old Trafford. However, there is no one to come for him.
RWB: Nausair Mazroi – Mazraoui has been a bright spark this term, but there are valid concerns about his suitability as a wing-back.

Chief Minister: Kobi Maino – It has been a quiet period for Maine, who boast a unique profile for the club’s current midfield options. He’s a key figure in the engine room, yet the young man didn’t quite stand out when he burst onto the scene.
LWB: Diogo Dalot – The Red Devils need an overhaul across the board, but this is certainly a position that Amorim will aim to upgrade at the first available opportunity. The right-footed Dalot has featured heavily for the new manager.
AM: Amad Diallo – Some argue that Amad would be better served in a wing-back role, but Amorim has used the Ivorian in his front three since the banishment of Marcus Rashford.
AM: Joshua Zirkzy – with Bruno Fernandes Suspended, Zirkzy can be used as a between-the-line facilitator. The Dutchman could be perfect for the role given his skills.
ST: Rasmus Hojlund – Amorim quickly realizes that Hojlund is no Viktor Gyokares, but he has little choice but to stick with the young Dane – especially if he uses Zirkzy a little deeper. The 21-year-old has just two Premier League This term targets its name.
