Macclesfield Tributes have been paid to Ethan McLeod, highlighting the 21-year-old’s “lust for life and infectious personality” after it was confirmed he had died in a car crash last night.
McLeod was returning from the Silkmen’s 2–1 National League North win at Bedford Town when his Mercedes crashed into a nearby metal barrier on the M1. He was declared dead at the scene.
read the club statement: “It is with the heaviest of hearts and an overwhelming sense of surrealism that Macclesfield FC can confirm the death of 21-year-old forward Ethan McLeod.
“On his way back from Bedford Town last night, Ethan was involved in a car accident on the M1 which tragically took his life.
“Ethan was an incredibly talented and respected member of our first team squad who had his whole life ahead of him.
“But more than that, Ethan’s infectious personality endeared him to everyone he came in contact with.
“Giving his all in everything he did, Ethan effortlessly pushed us all to be our best – both on and off the pitch.
“Ethan’s professionalism and unwavering work ethic inspired everyone, and his zest for life brought a smile to all of our faces – even on the darkest days.”
A product of McLeod Wolves Academy
McLeod, who was an unused substitute against Bedford, joined Macclesfield in July after coming through the Wolves academy and short spells at Alvechurch, Rushall Athletic and Stourbridge.
The striker made seven appearances for Macclesfield, scoring three goals.
The statement continued: “The news of Ethan’s passing has devastated our entire club and no words can express the immense sense of sadness and loss we now feel.
“The deep psychological wounds caused by Ethan’s death will undeniably never heal – but one thing is certain, and that is that Ethan’s living legacy will never fade, no matter how much time passes into the future.
“Ethan will live on in our hearts and minds forever and no matter what the future holds, his unique smile that enchanted us all will never be forgotten.
“Our deepest sympathies go out to Ethan’s family and friends at this very traumatic time, with an assurance that we will provide all the support we can to those who need it.
“May you rest in peace Ethan – you will be a Silkman forever.”
