Liverpool football parade driver Paul Doyle jailed for more than 20 years | Football News

A British driver who speeded into a crowd of Liverpool fans during a championship celebration parade in May, injuring more than 130 people, has been sentenced to 21 and a half years in prison.

Paul Doyle, 54, drove his minivan into a crowd of Liverpool fans simply because he lost his temper, prosecutors said. Last month he pleaded guilty to a number of charges, including nine counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and 17 counts of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm.

“The video is truly shocking,” Judge Andrew Menary said on Tuesday.

“It is difficult, if not impossible, to put into words alone the scenes of destruction you caused. It shows that you have deliberately accelerated your fandom time and time again.”

There will be more to come.
