Peabody Police Department A post on Facebook confirmed that multiple people were injured when a plastic Lego display fell from a mezzanine at In the Game playground in Peabody.
According to the playground’s Facebook page, they will be hosting a “New Year’s Eve Celebration” on Tuesday afternoon.
Peabody Fire Chief John Dowling told Fox News Digital they received a call just after noon that a portion of the arcade ceiling had collapsed.

Dowling said that upon arrival, crews discovered that it was not the ceiling that had collapsed, but a 12-foot-tall Lego set that had collapsed on a group of people during a failed New Year’s Eve balloon drop.
Dowling said the balloon was supposed to be released from the display during the party, but it appeared someone pulled hard on the display, causing it to tip over.

Dowling said 10 people Suffered minor injuries. Eight people were taken to hospitals for treatment and two refused medical evacuation.
Of the eight people who sought treatment, three were adults and five were children, most with cuts and scrapes, Dowling said.

“We watched the entire balloon fall and we didn’t know what was going on until we were getting ready to leave right after the balloon fell,” Turco described to WBZ-TV.
“There were big Legos everywhere, kids were crying, the office was packed with people, some with ice packs on their heads, and people were allowing their kids to steal Legos as souvenirs. It was chaos. I don’t Knowing that the true events were not known until after they occurred,” Turco continued.

Following the incident, the playground was briefly closed as a precaution, but reopened shortly after.
A spokesperson for the gaming center told Fox News Digital they are working with authorities to assess the situation.
