Native American men have been fleeing the workforce en masse in a decades-long trend that matches a increase in immigrationaccording to a new analysis that sounds the alarm on the subject.
The Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) has published a study This week, showing the share of working-age men (ages 16 to 64), U.S.-born men not participating in the labor force have soared since the 1960s, from 11, 3% not working or looking for work in April 1960 to 22.1% in April. of this year

“This is relevant to the immigration debate because one of the arguments for allowing so many legal immigrants in, or even tolerating illegal immigration, is that there are not enough workers,” CIS said in a release in the blog detailing his findings. “But this ignores the huge increase in the number of working-age people not in the labor force.
“Furthermore, being out of the labor force is associated with profound social problems like crimeoverdose deaths and welfare dependency,” the authors wrote. “Policymakers should consider encouraging work among millions of people on the economic margins rather than ignoring the problem by bringing in more and more immigrants.”

The trend of US-born workers leaving the workforce while foreign-born workers replace them shows no signs of stopping.
According to The Heritage Foundation economist EJ Antoni, data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics show that the net employment growth in America over the past year can be attributed entirely to workers born outside the US.

“There are 1.1 million fewer native-born Americans employed now than a year ago,” Antoni wrote in X. “All of the net employment growth has gone to foreign-born workers, entirely a just over 400,000 since November 23″.
