‘Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Success Has Already Influenced HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones’ Spinoff Plans

Ever since Game of Thrones came to a controversial end, HBO has have big plans. But for all that epic dreaming, it did the quiet success in one of his intended smaller performances will turn everything on its head.

That show, of course, went on Knight of the Seven Kingdomswhich, despite its formidable hero in the form of Ser Duncan the Tall, has an attractive audience with his lighter, more intimate take on the world of Game of Thrones—a story about ordinary people passing beneath and away from the big politics of the kingdom, rather than big battles and giant, mythical monsters. It wasn’t just audiences that were impressed, though. Apparently HBO head Casey Bloys is too.

“If you think about the novels, it’s a two-hander. It’s two unlikely friends and heroes who wander Westeros. From the beginning of it, from the beginning, it’s not warring families, it’s not dragons, it’s not giant battles. The deadline of the show’s source material, making the case for a project smaller in scope.

But according to Bloys, Knights‘ Success does not mean suddenly Game of Thrones The spinoff to come is a miniseries that avoids major events in the past or future of Westeros—more that the world of the seven kingdoms and the lands beyond are enough to be able to host series ideas of different sizes, to be seen like. Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and House of the Dragon able to accompany. Bloys also hinted that smaller ideas could also allow for movies with tighter production turns, suggesting a series like Knight will be an annual show, instead of having many gaps between seasons (KnightThe second season of wind next yearplaced between 2026 and 2028 release for House of the Dragonthird and fourth season).

“I’m not looking to change the way television is made. Our business has always been a portfolio business, which means you can have shows like The Last of Us or House of Dragon, and you can also have small displays like Someone everywhere or The Chair Companyadding items that may return on an annual basis, such as The Pitt,” continued Bloys, “or adding things to which the creative lends itself, to Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, I don’t want to say a very quick production, but something that allows you, on a small scale, to produce and return every year.

With the new Game of Thrones material is planned at least until 2028, it will be interesting to see how the lesson can be used for the many other spinoff projects that are still in progress for the franchise. Although Bloys did not comment on additional plans, Deadline noted that there are several projects currently planned, including the recently resurrected Thrones sequel focusing on Jon Snow and Arya Stark, the animated project Nine Journeys based on the life of House of the Dragonby Corlys Velaryon, Sea Snake (with animation legend Genndy Tartakovsky), the mythological prequel focused on Nymeria 10,000 Shipsand a series based around Aegon Targaryen’s conquest of Westeros.

Time will tell which of them will get the Knight of the Seven Kingdoms treatment—or make it on everyone’s screen. But at least the future of Game of Thrones on the small screen is looking a little brighter thanks to Dunk and Egg… a lot of happiness to their creatorwe think.
