The history of boxing has been littered with strange events. Fans parachuted into Riddick Bowe vs. Evander Holyfield, Mike Tyson bit Holyfield, the list goes on. However, there is always room for new entrants.
Kingsley Ibe knocked off Jarrell Miller’s wig at Madison Square Garden last Saturday in what will go down as one of the strangest moments in the sport.
Miller won by split decision, but his place in a unique piece of boxing history was booked when his wig came loose and bounced under a barrage of punches from Ibe.
In the break between rounds, Miller ripped off the remaining balls and threw them into the crowd.
ibe told sky sports: “I couldn’t focus on it. It was on top of his head and I could feel the glue.
“I can feel it on my chest and on my gloves,” he said with a laugh. “His hair fell out, which shocked me too! I was shocked.”
He disagreed with the scoring of the game and felt he deserved the decision.
But Ibe added: “For me, winning or losing doesn’t matter, what matters is growing and improving. And exposing all the ‘undercover brothers’! I think he’s been doing this for a while and this is the first time he’s been exposed.”
Ibe is still looking for big opportunities in the sport. He would welcome a fight in the UK, with Fabio Wardley his ultimate target.
“This is someone I really want to fight,” Ibe said of the WBO heavyweight world champion. “It could be Joe Joyce, anybody. One thing I’ll tell you is I’ll never turn down a fight.
“Any fight, anybody who wants it can come and get it. Or I’ll bring it to their doorstep. Personally, I want the best.
“I haven’t been to England yet and I’m looking forward to going there.”
