Kimbal Musk is a board member of Tesla and SpaceX, and also happens to be a restaurateur, entrepreneur, and younger brother of that one guy. His name appears in several emails and documents in the latest batch of Epstein disclosures from the Justice Department.

One impression a reasonable person would get from looking at the Epstein documents involving Kimbal Musk is that Epstein knows at least some details of his romantic life, knows his partner well, and that Epstein plans to spend—or at least thinks about spending—a lot of time with them in several locations around the country in 2022 and 2023.

But as outlined in an X post from Musk on Monday night:

• The woman Kimbal Musk dated at the relevant time was 30 years old, he said, and he admitted that he did not meet him through Epstein. Her age is relevant because Epstein was convicted of a sex crime with a minor, and the charges in which he was accused in 2019 when he died including sex trafficking of minors.
• Kimbal Musk confirmed that he met with Epstein. The meeting, he said, was in New York, and he admitted that he did not go to Epstein’s island.
• Epstein was, we’re now told, a subscriber to Kimbal Musk’s newsletter in 2012.The reason he has so many emails from me is because he subscribes to a newsletter that I send to thousands of people every few weeks,” Musk wrote in his X post.

If this 2012-era newsletter was just Kimbal Musk using his normal email client to send emails to “thousands of people” instead of using something like Mailchimp, that would be a little weird, but not unheard of, and there’s a conceivable universe where it could at least explain why Epstein was in email chains with him.

I say “part” because it doesn’t fully explain all the reasons for October 7, 2012 email on files where Kimbal Musk emailed two people—an with Epstein and Bill Gates named Boris Nikolicand Jeffrey Epstein, and wrote in part:

“It’s nice to hang out today.
Jeffrey and Boris, thank you so much for connecting with me (name voluntarily redacted by Gizmodo). I think you both have a role. :)”

…to which Nikolic responded in part:

.“Kimbal — just fyi — you better be nice to (name redacted) 😉
Jeffrey will go crazy if someone mistreats his girls/friends. So it is better to be very good to him. “

…to which Musk responded in part:

“Jeffrey: The message received is broad and clear.😉
Seriously, I’m very happy with my time so far with (name redacted). He is beautiful.”

For that matter, Musk’s explanation doesn’t fully satisfy my curiosity as to why Epstein has Google Calendar Reminder from before the emails about an event in September called “kimba musk, birthday four seasons,” which took place the Saturday after Kimbal Musk’s birthday.

And it may leave the public with a lingering curiosity about why Epstein received an email a few weeks later on October 26 which is supposed to be the schedule of someone with the same name as the apparent “woman” mentioned in the October 7 email. That list covers the fall of 2012 through January of 2013, and includes things like “Kimbal in NYC,” and this character “Kimbal” is mentioned five times in total.

Kimbal Musk is a major shareholder in Tesla, and has sold or exercised options when the price appears to have peaked several times. according to Electrek’s Fred Lambert. Forbes puts his net worth at around $700 million by 2021.

Musk is a Burning Man board member from 2019 to this yearwhen he left amid the Epstein controversy. He is also a board member of Chipotle from 2013 through 2019.
