Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen revealed that he recently underwent surgery for a broken right foot but is expected to be fully recovered by the start of spring training.
Allen said he was injured late in the second quarter of the team’s 23-20 win over Cleveland on Dec. 21, resulting in a fracture of the fifth metatarsal in his foot.
Allen finished the game and season through injuries.
Despite walking with a cane and wearing a protective boot Thursday, Allen said he would be able to play if Buffalo had a game this week.
He spoke for the first time since Buffalo’s 33-30 overtime loss to Buffalo in Denver’s divisional round two weeks ago and since participating in Joe Brady’s introductory news conference as Bills head coach earlier in the day.
Brady’s promotion comes after serving as Buffalo’s offensive coordinator for the past two-plus seasons. He replaces Sean McDermott, who was fired last week after nine years in the job.
Allen sat in on interviews during the six-day search process, in which Buffalo considered nine candidates.
General manager Brandon Beane said last week that Allen may need surgery to repair the injury.
