John Egan now key target for McKenna as Ipswich eye late move

ipswich town A move for a “very influential” player is now being considered and he is a key transfer target for the manager Kieran McKenna.

Ipswich plan to delay transfer

Ipswich’s hopes of automatic promotion were dashed by a dramatic 1-1 draw at home to Preston North End on Saturday, with Jack Clark equalizing from the penalty spot in injury time.

McKenna However, he was satisfied with the team’s performance, saying: “I’m positive about the reaction today from being down 1-0 and the way we equalized.

“I thought the reaction on the field and in the stands was outstanding. The players and the crowd came together through adversity, so for me, it was a comeback win. I’m just disappointed that we didn’t end up getting this win.”

Nonetheless, with Middlesbrough’s 1-0 win at home to Norwich City, the Tractor Boys are now seven points away from the automatic promotion places, albeit with a game in hand.

As a result, McKenna hopes to enter the transfer market before the February 2 deadline to improve the team’s chances of promotion, with Ipswich now keen to secure a late deal for the team. Hull City defender John Eganwith whom they hope to sign a permanent deal.

According to Hull Live , Egan has been identified as a key target by McKenna, but it remains to be seen whether a deal is feasible as Hull boss Sergei Jakirovic looks to keep hold of the defender, who is one of his most important players.

Jakirovitch said: “If you asked me, I would have liked John to stay with us. If someone had asked John Egan at the beginning of the season, how many games are you going to play, I don’t think he would have believed it, but he is a very important member of this team.”

‘Motivated’ Egan could be an exciting signing for Ipswich Town

Like Ipswich, Hull City have been in excellent form in the Championship this season, moving into third place with a 1-0 win over Blackburn Rovers in their last game, and Egan has been an important player.

The centre-back has made 26 appearances in the Championship and recently made eight clearances and two interceptions to help his side keep a clean sheet in victory at Ewood Park.

The Irishman also received praise from his former Ireland manager Stephen KennyAfter the 2-2 draw with Belgium, he said: “I think he had a really, really big impact on our game in that period when we needed someone. That was both in terms of the amazing challenge and also taking the ball and being able to use it well.”

As such, Egan could be a solid signing for Ipswich and weakening a team chasing promotion would be an added bonus to getting the deal done.
