Jewish Australians explain why Bondi Beach is their ‘sanctuary’

Two gunmen killed 15 people at a Hanukkah event on Sydney’s Bondi Beach on Sunday.

One Jewish Australian told the BBC the suburb had been a “sanctuary” for the community since the end of the Second World War.

As mourners traveled to the area to pay their respects, one woman said the attack had “violated” their safe space.
