NASCAR Clash manager shares reasons behind postponement
NASCAR was forced to postpone the race at Bowman Gray Stadium to Wednesday, February 4th. Previously, Charlotte and Winston-Salem battled through snowstorms and had their games postponed twice.
The safety of fans and staff was taken into consideration as the roads were covered with 8 inches of snow. Conflict manager Justin Swilling shed light on the situation, saying:
“When we woke up this morning, we were all on the same page. It’s going to take a day or two for the industry to get out of the snow in the greater Charlotte area and get it here. It’s going to take a few days for us to clear the stadium. The city feels that responsibility as well.”
NASCAR analyst Bob Pokras said the track appeared to be suitable for racing, but the grandstands needed repairs. driver likes Ricky Stenhouse Jr.. Todd Gilliland took matters into his own hands and shoveled snow in the “madhouse.”
However, Stenhouse believes the game will be played on Monday night. Before learning of the new timeline, he recruited Gilliland to quickly carry out the cleanup. Still, more crews are joining in and using unique methods to melt the snow. Some used blowtorches, others threw them in the trash.
