Ivan Juric has agreed an 18-month contract to become Southampton’s new manager.
The deal includes a break option and will be reviewed this summer. Juric’s contract could be extended for another two years if Southampton avoid relegation this season.
Juric to take over at Southampton after being sacked Romans He spent less than two months there last month.
Southampton have long been admirers of the Croatian and the 49-year-old was included in Saints’ squad to replace Ralph Hasenhuttl after the Austrian was sacked two years ago.
Saints have also sounded out West Brom boss Carlos Corberan and former Denmark coach Kaspar Hulmand, while Sheffield Wednesday’s Danny Rohr has also been linked with the job.
Who is Ivan Jurich?
The Croatian coach began his coaching career under Gian Piero Gasperini, who is currently the revolutionary manager at Atalanta.
Juric worked on Gasperini’s coaching staff at Inter Milan and Palermo before taking his first job at Serie C side Mantova in the 2014-15 season.
The following season, he accepted a second-division job at Crotone and helped the team gain promotion to Serie A for the first time in their history that season. He didn’t take them into Italy’s top flight, though, as he was offered the job of replacing Gasperini at Genoa, which he accepted.
Juric then had three separate spells with Genoa in two years – being sacked by the club three times between February 2017 and December 2018.
In 2019, he finally found consistency with Verona in Greece, who had just been promoted to Serie A. With one of the smallest budgets in the league, he kept the team in the top flight for two consecutive seasons before taking over the job in Turin.
The Croatian left Turin at the end of last season after three seasons in Serie A and took over the Roma job in September after the Friedkin Group sacked fan favorite Daniele De Rossi. However, Juric did not last even two months and was sacked with Roma four points above the relegation zone.
