Omar Barghouti is the co-founder of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, a Palestinian grassroots movement inspired by the anti-apartheid struggle in South Africa.
Omar is one of the most prominent Palestinian human rights defenders and his campaign has received international recognition. In 2017, he received the Gandhi Peace Prize for his work.
In the first interview in Al Jazeera’s new series RefactorAuthor and journalist Fatima Bhutto spoke to Omar about the history of Palestinian nonviolent resistance and its legacy and effectiveness in defending Palestinian rights.
Omar also talked about how the unprecedented international support for the Palestinians has impacted BDS as Israel continues its war on Gaza.
