Bournemouth Made a stunning comeback in the second half to beat Everton 2-1 at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, David Moyes’ side condemned Merseyside to a disappointing defeat in the rain.
Everton started well and created the better chances in the first half. James Garner’s free-kick was spilled by Djordje Petrovic, but the rebound was missed from close range, before Iliman Ndia hit the post after receiving Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s delivery at the far post.
The breakthrough finally came in the 42nd minute. After Ryan clipped Jarrad Branthwaite inside the penalty area, Ndia stepped up and calmly slotted the spot-kick into the bottom corner to give the hosts a deserved lead at the interval.
Bournemouth struggled to create a clear opening before the break, but the match turned after half-time.
Everton almost doubled their advantage early in the second half when Ndiaye intercepted a loose pass and Youssef Chermiti teed up Barry, only for James Hill to block and then Dewsbury-Hall’s follow-up effort.
The visitors equalized in the 61st minute. Adrian Truffert delivered a deep cross from the left and Ryan rose at the far post to power a header past Jordan Pickford. Everton barely had time to respond before falling behind. From a long-range free-kick, Hill squared the ball across goal and Amin Adli headed into the unguarded net to complete the turnaround.
Matters worsened for Everton when Jack O’Brien was sent on to bring Adley down as the last defender. Reduced to ten men, the hosts still pushed forward. Beto headed straight at Petrovic and Branthwaite missed a close chance, while a late set-piece was repelled by some determined Bournemouth defence.
After the game, Bournemouth head coach Andy Iraola was pleased with his players and their progress. Premier League.
He said: “Important three points. We didn’t play as well as in the last matches. Today we were very close to going 2-0 down but we got through those moments. We kept the ball a bit more.
“We didn’t start with the urgency that it should have. You have to show personality and make things happen.
“They are very direct from (Jordan) Pickford, from every free-kick and we saved well, but I am not happy and pleased with the performance as I have been in the last games.”
