
Protests over a spike in the cost of living in Iran spread to several universities on Tuesday, with students joining shopkeepers and traders in bazaars, semi-official media reported, while the government offered dialogue with protesters. Iran’s rial currency has lost almost half its value against the dollar in 2025, with inflation reaching 42.5% in December in a country that has been plagued by unrest in recent years and faces US sanctions and threats of Israeli attacks.
