Former India all-rounder Madan Lal directly stated that Pakistan made the wrong move. Madan Lal said that Pakistan is actually inviting a lot of trouble by boycotting the 2026 T20 World Cup against India.
The former Indian cricketer believes the decision to boycott the India-Pakistan match was the result of an ill-conceived plan. He had some strong words against Pakistan and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Rising tide ahead of Pakistan
The Pakistan government on Sunday announced that they have decided not to participate in the 2026 T20 World Cup group-stage match against India in Colombo on February 15. This is an announcement from the Government of Pakistan. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has asked the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to reconsider their stance. If they continue to object to the tight race then the council could take the matter seriously.
Your daily dose of cricket!
Madan Lal said boycotting India-Pakistan matches will not bring any benefit to Pakistan. This decision could easily put them in a difficult position. Other cricket leading nations such as England, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand will benefit in terms of spectators and sponsorship.
Madan Lal says Pakistan will lag behind
“At the end of the day, Bangladesh will suffer, Pakistan will suffer… The main thing is New Zealand, England, South Africa and Australia are the biggest cricketing nations; they will attract the crowds, they will get all the sponsorship,” Madan Lal said.
The former cricketer advised Pakistan to think twice. He suggested that to solve any problem, Pakistan needs to think correctly. Otherwise, they could seriously injure themselves.
Madan Lal and ICC urge Pakistan to reconsider boycott
“I think either the Pakistan government or the PCB, they are doing a disservice to their own cricket. This will not solve their problems. Someone has to be there thinking the right things. Their current thinking is not right. They want to support Bangladesh. You continue to support Bangladesh. That is not our business,” Madan Lal told ANI.
The ICC has reportedly urged Pakistan to reconsider their decision. Boycotting a match will not only have an impact on the game but the entire cricketing fraternity around the world.
“The ICC would like the cricket board to consider the significant and long-term impact on cricket in the country as this may impact on the global cricket ecosystem of which the ICC itself is a member and beneficiary,” the apex cricket body said in a statement.
