“India is the superior side”

Former India opener Kris Srikkanth gave a light-hearted speech ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup Super 8 match against West Indies. Srikanth said the current West Indies attack lacks the firepower to challenge the Indian batsmen and joked that Ian Bishop must come and bowl to trouble the Indian batsmen.

Team India will play a Super 8 match against West Indies on Sunday, March 1 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Both teams have one win and one loss each in the Super 8 stage. The winner of this match will face England in the second semi-final in Mumbai on March 5, while the loser will be eliminated.

Ian Bishop just needs to come back and play for them – Kris Srikkanth

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Kris Srikkanth said that West Indies depend on power batting but lack quality bowlers. He also described West Indies’ batting unit as inconsistent, adding that India remained a much superior team overall.

“West Indies have six batting abilities. But who will bowl for them? Ian Bishop just has to come back and bowl for them. Their top order is also poor, especially the opener,” Srikanth said.

“Hetmyer is a good player among the top players and he is used to India’s conditions. Their batting line-up is too haphazard. India are a far superior team,” he added.

West Indies only have good spinners – Kris Srikkanth

The cricketer-turned-commentator said West Indies will not be a serious challenge for India. Srikanth added that West Indies mainly relied on their spinners and their medium-pace batsmen made it easy for the Indian batsmen.

“India will beat the likes of Shankar Joseph. Brandon King and Shai Hope don’t score runs at all. It will be an easy win for India and doesn’t even require a percentage. West Indies only have good spinners. Their medium pace will be too easy for the Indian batsmen. They have no movement, no pace or bounce.”

West Indies lost to South Africa by nine wickets after winning their first five games of the tournament. India has also lost just once in five matches so far, and that defeat was also against South Africa.

West Indies can pose to India by batting first – Kris Srikkanth

Former India captain Chris Srikanth said West Indies can challenge India only if they bat first and score a very big total. He added that India’s strong batting line-up should dominate on the flat Kolkata pitches.

“The only threat West Indies can pose to India is to bat first and score 240 runs. It could even be 200 to 210 runs, and if they score, they might have a chance. Kolkata is a small venue and the pitch is flat, which is good for both sides. If West Indies hit 15 sixes, India will crush 18 sixes,” Srikkanth said (from the source mentioned above).

“While they have a six-hitting power, India have a greater six-batting power. India will hit two to three sixes towards Hooghly with the strength of their lineup and this West Indies attack,” he concluded.
