The co-founder of Infosys, Nrayana Murthy, took a helping hand on the growing culture of India, at the moment businessmen focus on creating jobs through innovation to eliminate poverty.

Speaking to Tiecon Mumbai 2025, Murthy stated that poverty “will fade away as a dew in a sunny morning” if India encourages “innovative companies” instead of trusting sheets.

“I have no doubt that each of you will create hundreds of thousands of jobs and this is how you solve the problem of poverty. Don’t solve the poverty problem by gifts. No country has achieved this,” Murthy said.

Murthy’s observations arrive at a time when India supports 80 crore citizens through monthly cash transfers, and as a result of the debate on freebies versus sustainable economic growth continues to intensify.

Clarifying that he does not speak of a lens political or governance, Murthy said that his suggestions are purely political recommendations. He emphasized that the benefits and subsidies should have accountability, suggesting that the recipients of state aid should demonstrate measurable improvements in return.

Quoting an example, he said: “If free electricity is given up to 200 units a month, the state can do random surveys at the end of six months in these homes to check if children study more or if the parents’ interest in the child has increased.”

Murthy’s comments are aligned with a wider national debate on the long -term impact of gifts, even the Supreme Court recently questioned the viability of these schemes.

Murthy also took an excavation to the excessive use of artificial intelligence (AI) as a keyword, saying that many ai solutions are merely “ancient and silly programs” received as advanced technology.
