First you need to make a backpack in haitalewhich requires you to have Tier 2 Workbench. To upgrade your workbench to level 2 you will need:

  • 30x Copper Ingot
  • 20x Iron Ingot
  • 20x Linen Scrap

Once this is done you can go to the patches section workbenchthen you have to click on the “Unlock Backpack” recipe, which requires you to have 8x Iron Ingots and 16x Medium Leather.

Once you have this recipe, equip it in your hand and right-click to learn the recipe. This consumes the recipe that unlocks the backpack for you and permanently gives you access to the 9-slot backpack.

Upgrading your backpack to the next level unlocks 9 slots, for a total of 18 slots. Likewise, you will need to upgrade your workbench to Tier 3, which will require the following resources:

  • 40x Cindercloth Shards
  • 8x Cobalt Ingot
  • 24x heavy leather

This will unlock backpack level 1 for you. For the next and final upgrade, you must restore 100 memories at: forgotten temple. There are several such temples on the game’s vast map, which you can visit to get final upgrades for your backpack in Hightale. This will give you 27 inventory slots.

Overall, it can take a long time for players to upgrade their backpacks, considering the amount of resources required. However, it is a well worth the investment that will help you in the long run. In the mid-game, you may be able to survive with a level 1 backpack for a while, but a higher capacity backpack is always welcome.
