Part of which is why Google decided to start developing it own Chrome browser—all the way back to 2008—is funneling people to all its web apps, from Google Docs to Gmail to Google Maps. And of course, Chrome has Google’s search engine built right in.
However, if you love Google Chrome but have decided that Google search is enough, you can change the browser’s default search engine. You can switch to Bing, DuckDuckGo, or any alternative search engine of your choice.
Maybe you feel like you’ve spent enough of your life scrolling through sponsored links on Google, or maybe you’d rather use a search engine there is no AI in it. Whatever the reason, here’s how to change the default search engine in Google Chrome.
Set Your Search Engine
By default, if you type a search query in the address bar at the top of the Chrome interface and press Enter, you will see the results from Google search. You’ll also find Google’s search engine front and center when you open a new browser tab. Both of these settings can be changed from their initial configurations.
To select a new search engine for the address bar, click the three dots on the browser tab (top right), then select Settings. on Search engines tab, click Manage search engines and searches. You get five options that you can cycle through, and some alternatives are already listed. If the search engine you want to use is listed here, click the three dots to the right of it, and select Make default. If you don’t see the search option you want, click it input next to Site search under the search engine list.
