How the Alex Pretty shooting led Trump to change course in Minneapolis


The death of Alex Pretti in Minneapolis was the second fatal shooting by federal agents in Minneapolis in less than a month, reigniting public outcry over tactics used in the city’s massive immigration operation.

The backlash after the 37-year-old nurse was fatally shot on Saturday prompted a shift in tone from President Donald Trump, who said his administration would “damp down tensions a little bit.”

But tensions have been building in Minneapolis for weeks, with frequent protests and confrontations between residents and federal agents. New footage released by the News Movement and shared with BBC News shows Preti had an altercation with federal officers 11 days before her death.

A spokesperson for the family confirmed that the man in the video is Preity. In a separate statement released to the media, the family’s attorney said “nothing that happened a full week ago justifies Alex’s murder.”
