The House of Representatives is preparing to vote on a bill that would require photo identification for voters across the United States in the upcoming 2026 midterm elections.
The House Rules Committee is the final gatekeeper for most bills before they are voted on by the full House. Save America Act advanced Conservatives continued to pressure the Senate on Tuesday to pass the bill after the House likely passed it.
This is sweeping legislation designed to prevent non-citizens from participating in U.S. elections.

Louisiana House Speaker Mike Johnson told reporters the bill will come up for a vote on Wednesday.
The legislation is led by Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, and Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah. in the senate.
It is an updated version of Roe’s Protecting American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, which passed the House in April 2025 but never passed the Senate.
While the SAVE Act would create new federal proof-of-citizenship requirements for the voter registration process and require states to ensure there are no ineligible voters on their rolls, the updated bill would also require a photo ID for any voter to cast a ballot. Federal elections.

It also requires the sharing of information between state election officials and federal authorities to verify citizenship status on current voter rolls and enables the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to pursue immigration cases if a non-citizen is found to be listed as eligible to vote.
The bill has a strong chance of passing the House, where the vast majority, if not nearly all, of Republicans have supported similar pushes in the past.

But in the Senate, current rules require 60 votes to overcome a filibuster and bring a final vote on the bill, which would require at least seven Democrats even if all Republicans came together.

“(Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D.) is going to take it. The only question is, will he take it in an environment where it can pass?” Roy posed to Fox News Digital on Tuesday.
“My view is that the majority leader can and should. I’m not afraid of the amendment vote… We should put all their amendments on hold, force them to finish all the floor, let them speak and filibuster.”
