Michael Morales recently shared his thoughts on a possible Islam Makhachev fight and detailed his expectations for the conflict.
Makhachev wins UFC welterweight title via unanimous decision Jack de la Maddalena In November last year, he became the 11th second-level league champion in promotion history. He also tied Anderson Silva’s record for the longest winning streak in UFC history (16 consecutive wins).
Considering Morales’ undefeated record of 19-0, 14 of which came via knockout, many believe the Ecuadorian fighter will be Makhachev’s next opponent. He defeated Sean Brady by first-round knockout at UFC 322 last November.
In a recent interview with MMA Junkie, Morales previewed a potential matchup with Makhachev. He was confident about his match against the Dagestani wrestling master, saying:

“I’ve fought a lot of strong guys, high-level ATOS fighters, Entram fighters, and I’m very difficult to deal with on the ground. Not really sure how I do it, but I always get up and I get away pretty fast. I don’t think he can pin me down… Everybody knows his game, which is wrestling to the death, submission, and then finish. He rarely gets a chance to knock someone out.”
He added:
“I can wrestle, I can hit, I can do it all. I’m ready in every aspect, but I don’t think he’s going to hit with me. I’m too far away, I’m high, but let’s see what happens… I’m not going to give him a lot of respect. He’s an athlete like me. He’s a human being like me. He bleeds like I do. I just see him as a guy that I want to take the title from.” (High/Ton: mixed martial arts fans)
Carlos Prates believes Michael Morales will be Islam Makhachev’s first test as welterweight champion
Carlos Prates believes Islam Makhachev’s first title defense will be against Michael Morales because of the trash talk they posted online.
in the most recent “Mixed Martial Arts Today” InterviewThe Brazilian fighter explained that he is seeking a yellow card against Jake de la Maddalena and hopes Morales will get a shot at the next 170-pound title shot. He said:
“I think it’s going to happen because if Kamaru doesn’t go against Islam, they might send Morales because they start talking trash and stuff like that. I really want to fight Jake de la Maddalena or Morales, but I think Morales is going to fight for the belt. I don’t know what happened with Kamaru. I don’t know if he’s injured or anything like that. I want to fight JDM.” (High/Ton: mixed martial arts fans)
