Along with A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, we are getting more and more House of the Dragon this year. HBO has yet to reveal much of the show’s upcoming third season, but it was discussed recently, as writer George RR Martin sound unhappy with the showrunner Ryan Condal has changed a lot from his books.
HBO head Casey Bloys was asked about this breakdown by The deadlinewhere he praised both parties: he wanted Martin’s thoughts to “remain behind closed doors,” but otherwise considered the author “a good fellow.” As for Condal, Bloys noted that Martin identified him as the right person to lead the show, and since then he’s been “a very good showrunner and a very good collaborator. We’ve embraced his vision and his creative choices, or we wouldn’t be doing it.” He even noticed the first two dragon Seasons is highly rated on Rotten Tomatoes.
“Some of it comes with the territory,” Bloys continued. “The idea that (George) agrees with every creator or showrunner who develops or produces two artists doesn’t always agree.”
Martin has since moved to Kingdoms and not as involved in the third period of dragon as he always has, and Bloys did not touch on whether he will return for the fourth season. Until then, Bloys reiterated that the fourth will be the last, that Condal is currently working with the writers to determine how many episodes this season will have. Regardless of how much it gets, expect that season to act as a “natural end to this particular history of the House of Targaryens.”
