Harshit Rana has been one of the mainstays of Team India in the white-ball format. The Delhi pacer was also named in the 2026 T20 World Cup squad; however, Rana was left out due to an injury he sustained in the warm-up match against South Africa. He was seen hugging his knee as he walked off the pitch.
Harshit Rana underwent surgery after suffering joint pain during the match against Proteas. “Surgery done right, now focused on recovery and getting back to the place I love,” he posted on Instagram.

Harshit Rana has been replaced by Mohammed Siraj in the T20 World Cup squad. Rana may also miss the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) as it will take him several months to recover after the surgery and he will have to undergo rehabilitation at the BCCI Center of Excellence to obtain fitness certificates for further participation in the tournament.
Harshit Rana is one of the cricketers who has been criticized for his inclusion in the team lineup in all formats of the game. However, his performances in all formats for India silenced the critics. Last year, he became India’s highest wicket-taker in men’s ODIs 2025, taking 20 wickets in 11 matches.
Harshit was the key to Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) success in 2024 and he was bowling brilliantly at the time of Gautam Gambhir’s mentorship. Therefore, after Gambhir became the head coach, he also represented India in all three formats. There were rumors that Harshit was played because of Gambhir’s preference, but his performance silenced everyone.
Harshit Rana found his rhythm in the T20I format as he picked 9 wickets for the team in 9 games with an economy rate of 10.20.
