Reigning Young Player of the Year Harry Robertson has lit up the Premier League ablaze in a career so far short, and those around him expect St Helens’ run of results to take things to the next level in 2026.

I mean, who can forget his sensational footwork in one of the greatest moments in Super League history as he tore Leeds Rhinos apart before Shaun Wright went down in the final seconds of the play-off match with a historic try dubbed the ‘left to Wright’?

Robertson was simply a level above him in that moment and was definitely the player who attracted so many Rhinos defenders, providing space for his team-mates to pass the ball through.

Among many other moments, he was crowned Super League Young Player of the Year and again at center during pre-season, with those who had seen him play claiming his rugby was simply “weird” (in the best possible way).

While he knows he now plays an integral role in the Saints franchise and completed one of the most special attempts in Saints history, he’s quick to praise others for their involvement.

“Obviously, I played my part in that, but those were other brilliant moments,” Robertson told sky sports.

“Matt Whitley doesn’t get a lot of credit for Tristan’s (Mariners’) passing, but he found two passes under pressure, and for his position, that’s not what you ask of them.

“Obviously for (Sean) Wrighty to finish in the corner it was a team effort and everyone played their part. It was really special.”

Robertson may look laid-back, but it’s clear that even at just 20 years old, he’s a highly competitive pro, which becomes obvious when you ask him about his incredible achievements in 2025. He not only wants to catch up with them, but also surpass them.

“Hopefully it’s more of the same. I’m still qualified to win Young Player of the Year again, so that’s a target,” he added.

“Hopefully we can do better as a team this year as well.

“I love (center). This is obviously my second year as a center and my second preseason.

“I feel like that’s probably why I’m having more success and getting used to the position, especially the way we play. I’m getting the ball more.”

Silverware is an expectation, not an option

Although one of the big clubs in Super League, St Helens have not won the trophy since 2023, when they won the NRL World Club Challenge at home against the Penrith Panthers with a dramatic goal-drop in golden point extra-time.

That moment has become Robertson’s favorite moment in Super League’s 30-year history, but he knows his side must now bring the trophy back to the club and there is simply no other option.

In fact, St Helens parted ways with Paul Wellens at the end of the 2025 season and appointed former Salford boss Paul Rowley to the top job.

Raleigh are renowned for their free-flowing attacking style of rugby and Robertson hopes that if they can maintain that style under the pressure of expectations they can return to the top of Super League.

“It’s been really good and it’s given a lot of fresh looks to a lot of guys on the team,” Robertson said.

“I think we need it, especially with Rawls’ new style of play, I think everyone knows what his style of play is. He likes to throw the ball around.

“We’re not going to give up the way we defend and our identity, but with the new attack, it’s going to be fun to watch.

“I feel like every year when you play for Saints, the semi-finals aren’t good enough. Even getting to the finals might not be good enough. You want to win it.

“We haven’t done well in the last few years and we need these trophies.

“Obviously this year, like every year, we want to go out and win it all – league leaders, grand finals, Challenge Cup, we want to win it all.

“I think he (Raleigh) knows what he needs to improve on. Maybe he’s been to other clubs in the past and he’s got to improve across the board, but he’s really honed in on what we really need to improve on as a team.

“Silverware is the ultimate thing you play for. The only reason I play is to win the Grand Final or the Challenge Cup.

“It’s something I haven’t experienced yet, so it will be very special and I hope it happens.

“I was watching that game when Saints won the World Cup challenge and I think I was probably 16. Obviously I wasn’t too far away from the game at that time.

“I know some of the lads and I meet up with them from time to time and train with them.

“It’s a very special moment for all of them and that gives me motivation. I want a little bit of that.

“So how they celebrate and what it means to them, it’s a dream moment in sport and in any sport.”

Is he targeting the World Cup? That’s a goal!

If Robertson continues on his current trajectory, there’s no limit to what he can achieve in the game.

While he is reluctant to look too far ahead, the youngster did admit he is targeting a seat on the plane when England travel to Australia for the 2026 Rugby League World Cup later this year.

“I’m not really looking that far ahead but I do want to play for my country and that’s my big goal.

“I want to play for my country, I just want to be one of the best players in the Super League – no matter what position, I don’t really care where I play, I just want to be the best player at the end of the day

“I think playing for England is the pinnacle of the game and especially seeing the Ashes disappear recently I feel like we haven’t shown what we can do as a country.

“That’s not against the lads who are playing, I just feel like we can be number one in the world and it’s something we can be involved in and I love it

“Hopefully the World Cup is my goal, but I’m still young and I think I still have a few years left.”
