Following the dramatic Boxing Day Test at the MCG, the International Cricket Council finally released the final results of the 2025 ICC Test batting rankings on Wednesday (December 31). The result triggered major changes in the batting and bowling rankings, with Shubman Gill returning to the top ten batsmen and Harry Brooke reaching a career-high ranking.
Latest ICC Test Rankings: Boxing Day Test triggers major changes, Shubman Gill returns to top 10
India Test captain Shubman Gill has emerged among the top ten batsmen in the latest ICC Test batting rankings. Although Gill played just one of the four innings in the recent home Test series against South Africa, he has jumped to tenth place with 730 runs.
The right-handed batsman’s rise comes after Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey dropped four spots and dropped out of the elite list. Gill now finds himself firmly back among the best batsmen in the world and goes on to become India’s second-ranked Test batsman, with only Yashasvi Jaiswal ahead of him.

Currently, Jaiswal is ranked eighth in the ICC Test rankings with 750 runs.
Harry Brooke becomes world’s second Test batsman
However, England white-ball captain Harry Brooke has made the biggest jump in the batting rankings. In a tough game at the MCG, Brook showed grit and patience, scoring 41 points and 18* respectively, making huge strides.
He moved past the big three of Kane Williamson, Travis Head and Steve Smith in the top five. Brooke ended the year as the world’s second-ranked Test batsman, behind only his teammate Joe Root, who remains first in the updated ICC Test rankings with 867 points.
Meanwhile, Smith’s struggles with consistency have come at a heavy cost, pushing the Australian star down to fifth. Pakistan’s Saud Shakeel has also jumped up to 9th place, while Dinesh Chandimal (11th) and Rachin Ravindra have also moved up one spot each in the latest rankings.
Updated ICC Test bowling rankings: Jasprit Bumrah continues to dominate
India continues to dominate the ICC Test bowling rankings with Jasprit Bumrah retaining his position as the world’s number one Test bowler with a rating of 879. However, Australia’s Mitchell Starc and Pakistan’s Noman Ali are challenging Bumrah for the top spot in the latest ICC Test bowling rankings.

Starc’s stellar performance in the ongoing 2025-26 Ashes has seen him ranked second in the latest rankings with a rating of 843 points. Starc and Noman Ali have the same score, but the Australian star has the best chance of outbidding the Pakistan spinner and knocking Bumrah off the charts when he appears in the fifth and final Ashes Test in Sydney starting on January 4.
Scott Boland also moved up two places to 7th, while Gus Atkinson and Ravindra Jadeja moved up 4 places to joint 13th with their Ashes show.
Ravindra Jadeja remains No. 1 all-rounder in Tests
Ravindra Jadeja, on the other hand, emerged as the world’s number one Test all-rounder in 2025 with a rating of 455 runs. England captain Ben Stokes ranks third in the latest ICC Test all-round rankings with a rating of 316.
Indian all-rounders Washington Sundar and Axar Patel are tied at 11th place with a rating of 202 points. Surprisingly, Atkinson has jumped to No. 8 and is among the top 10 all-rounders in the world in Test cricket. Cameron Green’s ranking also jumped to 17th.
