Shakur Stevenson His recent victory over boxing champions has been highly praised by most of the boxing community Teofimo Lopez But one legend of the sport isn’t as impressed as others.
Stevenson defeats Lopez via unanimous decision Won the WBO super lightweight title last month at New York’s Madison Square Garden, becoming a four-division world champion in the process.
The 28-year-old dominated the fight, with all three judges scoring the fight 119-109 in his favor, while Lopez struggled to cope with his opponent’s ability.
Many big-name stars praised Stevenson’s winsuggesting he may continue to be one of the most exciting names in the entire sport, but Hall of Fame inductee James Toney doesn’t seem to agree.
Interviewed by Fight Hub TVToney found the win over Lopez boring and insisted Stevenson wasn’t as impressive as his own career.
“I watched the first six rounds. It was boring. He doesn’t do it like I do. If he did it like I do, combos, punches and putting things together, he would be excited, but this is (boring). He needs to keep the dog on him.”
Toney was a world champion in three weight classes during his illustrious career, but it was one weight class below what Stevenson had achieved so far.
“Lights Out” won 77 of his 92 fights, 47 of which were by knockout, and his KO rate was 61%. Stevenson has a 25-0 record, 11 of which have come via stoppage, and his KO rate is 44%, which it seems Toney would like to see improve in the future.
