Hakeem Jeffries says Republicans are ‘burnt out’ on Texas redistricting

Democratic House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries took aim at Republicans on Monday, saying they were “done.” in texas” accuses Republicans of going too far in redistricting and predicts they will fall far short of their goal of flipping five congressional seats.

During a news conference at the U.S. Capitol, Jeffries was asked about the recent Texas Senate race in which a Democrat flipped a district chair. Donald Trump Jeffries was also pressed on whether Democrats could win four of the five congressional seats being redistricted in Texas.

“Yes, Republicans screwed up in Texas and they know it,” Jeffries said. “We’ve known about it for months and it’s for a number of reasons.”

Jeffries argued that Republicans were never prepared to pick up five seats and instead created a scenario in which they tried to wrest seats from Democrats because they believed there would be no response.

“California responded decisively and we will gain five seats under Proposition 50,” he said. California Ballot Measures Reshaped redistricting rules and increased Democratic chances in several congressional districts.

“What happens in Texas remains to be seen, but I can guarantee you they’re not going to win five seats,” Jeffries continued. “Based on their performance in 2024 alone, it will be difficult for them to win the Triple Crown.”

“This was a blistering attack on Republicans in Texas and even caught the attention of Ron DeSantis,” Jeffries said. “They can’t ignore this. Republicans have been losing elections and Democrats have been winning since last January.”

The Texas redistricting fight is part of a broader national fight for control of the House ahead of the 2026 midterm elections, with similar clashes taking place in Virginia, North Carolina and California, with both sides vying for seats that could ultimately determine the majority.
