Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has urged Jack Grealish to work harder and regain his place in the starting XI.
The 29-year-old played a key role in Manchester City’s 2022-23 treble-winning campaign, appearing in 50 matches in all competitions.
Grealish contributed five goals and 11 assists, helping the team secure the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League titles.
Despite his previous success, the England international has struggled to make an impact this season.
In Saturday’s 4-1 Premier League win over West Ham, Grealish was left on the bench, with Brazilian winger Savinho taking his place in the starting lineup.
The City boss made it clear that he expects Grealish to prove his worth and fight for his place in the team.
“Savinho is in better shape than Jack and everything, and that’s why I played Savinho,” Guardiola explained.

“Do I want the jack who won the treble? Yes, I want it, but I try to be honest with myself about it. They have to fight. You might say it’s unfair.
“If you think that, that’s fine, but you have to prove (to me), ‘OK, I’m going to fight with Savinho, deserve to play in that position,’ every single day, every week, and every month.”
Grealish’s season has also been disrupted by injuries, which have limited his opportunities. He has started only six league matches so far.
Despite his recent struggles, Guardiola has expressed his confidence in the player’s ability.
“Two weeks ago, he was injured and he needs rhythm, and to play, but players need training,” Guardiola added.
“I have no doubts about the quality of Jack or any of these players. They wouldn’t be here (otherwise).
“I know he can do it because I’ve seen him. I saw his level, and I wanted to, every single training session and every single game.
Manchester City return to action in the FA Cup on January 11, hosting fourth-tier side Salford City.
