Paris — Call them Monsieur and Madame Clooney.
The French government has announced that George Clooney, his wife Amal and their eight-year-old twins Ella and Alexander have been granted French citizenship.
The naturalizations of the Kentucky-born star and his family were announced last weekend in the Journal Officiel, where French government decrees are published.
A government notice showed that human rights lawyer Amal Clooney was naturalized under her maiden name of Amal Alamuddin. It is also stated that George Clooney’s middle name is Timothy.

The couple bought a property in France in 2021. In an interview with Esquire in October, Clooney described their “farm in France” as his primary residence — a decision the 64-year-old actor and his 47-year-old wife made with their children in mind.
I was worried about raising our children in LA, in the Hollywood culture, he told the magazine. “I don’t want them walking around worried about the paparazzi. I don’t want them being compared to other people’s famous kids.”
Growing up away from the limelight, in France, “they’re not on their iPads, you know?” he said. “They dine with adults and have to carry the dishes. They have a much better life.”
George Clooney’s representatives did not respond to an Associated Press request for comment on Monday.
It was not immediately clear whether Clooney retained his US citizenship. Amal Clooney was born in Lebanon and raised in Great Britain. They were born in London.
In early December, George Clooney told the English-language French radio network RTL that “I love French culture, your language, even though I’m still bad at it after 400 days of courses,” according to French news agency AFP.
Clooney owns a property in Italy’s Lake Como region, and he and Amal bought a historic manor house in England, AFP reports, adding that they also own an apartment in New York and an estate in Kentucky.
But he told RTL that his family’s French home is “where we are happiest,” AFP noted.
