The French police and Europol are searching the local office of X, announced the Paris prosecutor’s office on Tuesday.
The raid was part of an ongoing investigation launched in 2025 on allegations of “fraudulent acquisition of data” in an automated data-processing system “by an organized group.”
The French prosecutors’ cybercrime unit said the investigation has now been expanded to cover other alleged crimes, including conspiracy to possess and distribute child sexual abuse material, privacy violations, and Holocaust denial.
The expansion of the investigation comes as X and its owner Elon Musk face widespread criticism for allowing its Grok AI to be used to generate non-consensual images, including child abuse imagery, of other people on its platform.
Musk, who bought X (formerly Twitter) in 2022, and former X chief executive Linda Yaccarino was summoned for questioning on April 20. Unnamed X employees were also summoned the same week, according to the prosecutor’s announcement.
When reached for comment, X spokeswoman Rosemarie Esposito referred a statement Posted on X’s Global Government Affairs account, the company said that “the allegations underlying today’s attack are baseless and X categorically denies any wrongdoing.”
