So far, about 1,600 people have faced federal charges for breaching the U.S. Capitol, with more than 600 of them suspected of assaulting or resisting police, Politico reported.
Nearly 200 defendants have been charged with carrying dangerous weapons inside the Capitol and 153 defendants have been charged with damaging government property, but new data released Monday is the first Ministry of Justice Politico added that it has estimated how many cases have yet to be prosecuted.

The news outlet also reported that about 1,100 defendants had been convicted and sentenced on January 6, but 300 of the cases that had been prosecuted had not yet reached trial.
President Biden was asked by reporters on Sunday whether he still believed Trump was a threat to democracy.

“We have to reestablish basic democratic norms,” Biden told reporters in the East Room of the White House. “I think what he’s doing is a real threat to democracy. I hope we can move beyond this.”
