Former US President Bill Clinton was admitted to the hospital with a fever, according to a Democratic Party spokesman.
“He remains in good spirits and deeply grateful for the excellent care he received,” Angel Ureña wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
He said Clinton was taken to Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, D.C., for examination and observation on Monday night after developing a fever.
Mr Urena’s statement did not provide further details about the Arkansas Democrat’s condition, although US media reports said Clinton was expected to recover.
A source close to Clinton said nbc news The situation was “not an emergency” and the former president would be “fine.” News networks reported that Clinton was awake and alert.
It’s the latest health scare for the 42nd U.S. president, who served in the White House from 1993 to 2001.
Clinton, 78, was last hospitalized in 2021, when he spent six days in a California hospital with an infection in his blood. He is known to have suffered from heart disease in the past.
In 2004, aged 58, he underwent quadruple bypass surgery after doctors discovered signs of widespread heart disease, and a decade later he had clogged arteries opened after complaining of chest pains.
Shortly after his second surgery, the former president, known for his love of fatty foods, became vegetarian. In 2016, he told Politico, “If I hadn’t become a vegetarian, I probably wouldn’t be alive. It’s awesome.”
Clinton has been active on the presidential campaign trail this year, traveling across the country to promote Vice President Kamala Harris’ candidacy for president.
Last month, he released his latest book, “Citizen: My Life After the White House.”
