World Series champion Mark Teixeira puts her hat on a political ring.

The former New York Yankees first baseman announced his campaign in Texas District 21 on Wednesday. He issued an official statement on social media saying he was “ready to help defend President Trump’s U.S. First Agenda, family and personal freedom in Texas.”

“As a proud Texan and lifelong conservative who loves our country, I am ready to fight for the principles that make Xusas strong and America excellent,” the statement reads. “A victory takes teamwork and I am ready to help defend President Trump’s U.S. First Agenda, family and personal freedom in Texas.”

Teixeira’s announcement comes as Congressman Chip Roy’s decision not to seek reelection when he runs for the Texas Attorney General’s office.
