Former India opener Aakash Chopra has exposed England’s weaknesses ahead of the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup. Chopra expressed doubts about England’s performance in the tournament and explained the issues that could hurt the team in the title race.
Aakash Chopra says England’s bowling line-up is not that organized compared to the batting unit. It’s not just the batting direction, but the English bowling team has also put a question mark on the former India cricketer’s performance during the T20 World Cup.
Jofra Archer could be England cricket’s boomerang
Chopra said in a YouTube channel video that pace bowling can cause a lot of trouble for the England cricket team during matches, mainly because of Jofra Archer. Archer is a proven fast bowler and if he maintains his form, he can take the ball immediately which is a good thing for the team. But Akash raised questions about the Pacers’ inconsistency. He believes that the out-of-form Archers may bring a devastating blow to the team.

“The bowling team as a whole is not bad, okay. It doesn’t give you a lot of confidence. Josh Tongue, T20 career – okay, okay. Jamie Overton is good but I don’t know. Adil Rashid, maybe he’s past his prime but I find him to be a very good bowler,” Chopra said in his YouTube video.
“Jofra Archer, if he’s hot, he’s very hot, but when he’s cold, he’s very cold. So that could be a concern.”
Chopra also questions England’s bowling combination
Jofra Archer, Josh Tongue, Luke Wood, Jamie Overton and Sam Curran are the seamers in England’s 2026 World Cup T20 squad. For spin bowling duties, they have selected Adil Rashid, Rehan Ahmed, Liam Dawson, Will Jacks and Jacob Bethell to take on the high-pressing duties. Apart from Rashid and Ahmed, the remaining three are mainly batting all-rounders who can cut the ball with the ball.
Chopra also revealed England’s batting order. He felt that apart from Harry Brooke and the openers, most of the batsmen might have to play out of their actual positions, which would have a negative impact on the team’s performance.
Unorganized batting order
“Barring Harry Brooke and the opener, it seems like everyone is playing in out-of-place positions. So that could be a potential banana peel or weakness. So that’s definitely an issue with this team. The spin bowling is okay too, okay. The bowling department overall is not that good. So England’s issue could be their bowling,” explained Aakash Chopra.
England are drawn in Group C along with West Indies, Nepal, Scotland and Italy in the 2026 T20 World Cup. Chopra also said that the England cricket team may face a tough challenge in the quarter-finals after the group stage.
