Former British Prime Minister David Cameron said on Thursday he was concerned that U.S. President Donald Trump’s attitude to ensure peace in Ukraine could set a shocking precedent.
Cameron told CNBC’s Converge live in Singapore, Russia wants to broadcast live in Singapore: “My hope is that all Donald Trump does is use very shocking language and shocking methods to try to unlock the situation, try to create a situation where Ukraine wants to negotiate peace, Russia wants to negotiate peace, and get there.”
“My fear is always that it goes beyond Trump’s perception of the world, and more that the big powers nearby are sovereign and you shouldn’t interfere with what they want to do,” Cameron said.
He said it could be “very worrying” for the Baltic countries (Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania), which all have borders with Russia.
He added: “I think this is very concerned about Ukraine. These are independent sovereign states and we should support the notion that independent sovereign states should not invade.”
Cameron served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 2010 to 2016 and served as Foreign Minister of Former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s government from 2023 to 2024.
