A five-year-old boy and his father detained in a Texas detention facility during US President Donald Trump’s aggressive immigration raids have returned home to Minnesota.

Liam Conejo Ramos and his father, Adrian, asylum seekers from Ecuador, spent 10 days at the Dilley Detention Center before U.S. District Judge Fred Biery order to release them Saturday.

Rep. Joaquin Castro, D-Texas, wrote in a social media post that he picked them up at the detention center on Saturday night and escorted them home on Sunday.

“Liam is home now. With his hat and backpack,” Castro wrote, along with a photo of the child. “We will not stop until all children and families are home.”

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Agent Liam and his father were arrested. On January 20, the boy came home from kindergarten.

Photos of the boy wearing a blue bunny hat and carrying a backpack being held by police spread around the world, fueling public anger over a federal immigration crackdown in which agents shot and killed two U.S. citizens.

Liam was one of four students detained by immigration officials in suburban Minneapolis, according to the Columbia Heights Public School District.

Tricia McLaughlin, assistant secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), said in a statement that ICE was not targeting or arresting Liam and that his mother refused to take him after his father was arrested. She said his father told police he wanted Liam to be with him.

“The Trump Administration is committed to restoring the rule of law and common sense to our immigration system and will continue to fight to arrest, detain and deport aliens who do not have the right to enter this country,” McLaughlin said.

Neighbors and school officials said federal immigration officials used the preschooler as “bait” to have him knock on his door so his mother would open the door.

The Department of Homeland Security called the version of events a “despicable lie.” The father allegedly fled on foot and left the boy in a moving vehicle in the driveway.

“This case is rooted in the government’s ill-conceived and poorly implemented implementation of daily deportation quotas, apparently even if this requires traumatizing children,” Biri said harshly.

He criticized the administration’s apparent “ignorance” of the United States’ Declaration of Independence, which “enumerated the grievances against the would-be autocratic king of our fledgling nation.”

Beery also cited the Fourth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which protects the right against “unreasonable searches and seizures.”

Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota posted a photo on social media of herself with Liam, his father and Castro, in which she held Liam’s Spider-Man backpack.

“Welcome home, Liam,” she said against two hearts.
