Investigators in Arizona want residents near Nancy Guthrie’s home to share surveillance footage of suspicious cars or people they may have seen in the month before she disappeared.
The alarm reached a radius of three kilometers in the neighborhoods near where the mother is Today talk show host Savannah Guthrie went missing 12 days ago, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said Thursday.
She has been asking for video footage of “anything that neighbors consider unusual or important to our investigation” since early January.
Federal and local law enforcement officers are going door-to-door in Tucson neighborhoods around the home of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie while also looking for clues around the nearby home of her other daughter, who she visited just hours before she disappeared.
Investigators recovered and are analyzing several pieces of evidence, including a pair of gloves, the sheriff’s department said.
The reward for information has been increased
Authorities briefly set up a tent Thursday outside Nancy Guthrie’s entrance where her blood was found in the early days of the investigation and where a door camera captured images of a masked person the night she disappeared. On Thursday, the FBI released descriptions of the person, whom it is now calling a suspect, in a post on X.
The post described the suspect as a 5-foot-9 or 5-foot-10 man with an average build, and included multiple-angle photos of a black “Ozark Trail Hiker Pack” 25-liter backpack, which the agency said was the make and model the suspect was carrying.
“We hope this updated description will help concentrate the public tips we are receiving,” the FBI said, noting it has received thousands of tips since Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance.
FBI Phoenix also announced that it has increased its reward to $100,000 for information on Guthrie’s disappearance.
In two videos released Tuesday by the FBI, a masked person who appears to be armed appears to be fiddling with a doorbell camera at the home of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Today show host Savannah Guthrie who is believed to have been abducted about 10 days ago. FBI Director Kash Patel wrote in an X post accompanying the video that it was taken the morning of her disappearance.
Authorities said Guthrie was taken against her will. She has been missing since Feb. 1, and authorities say she is taking several medications and there are concerns she could die without them.
While much of the nation is still consumed by the mysterious disappearance, Savannah Guthrie took to Instagram on Thursday to share a vintage home video of her mom with her two children, sharing pink flowers. “We will never give up on her. Thank you for your prayers and hope,” she wrote.
On Wednesday, FBI agents carrying water bottles to beat the desert heat walked among the rocks and vegetation at Nancy Guthrie’s home. They also fanned out in the nearby neighborhood, knocking on doors and rummaging through bushes and rocks.
“They were just asking some general questions, wondering if there was anything, any information we could give about the Nancy Guthrie problem. We wanted to look around the property and after that, cameras and stuff,” Ann Adams, a neighbor of Nancy Guthrie’s oldest daughter, Annie Guthrie, told The Associated Press on Wednesday.
“They asked specifically about Jan. 31 and the morning of Feb. 1, and then they wanted to know if we had seen anything suspicious on the cameras since then,” Adams said.
Two investigators came out of Annie Guthrie’s daughter’s home Wednesday with a paper grocery bag and a white trash bag. One of them, still wearing blue protective gloves, also took a pile of mail from a mailbox by the side of the road.
Adams said she was walking her dog earlier this week when “it started getting really busy and then I heard them looking, looked down the street, saw them slowly coming this way.”
Savannah Guthrie and her two siblings have shown their willingness to pay the ransom. However, it is not known whether ransoms with deadlines that have already passed are authentic.
