TUCSON, Ariz. – Former FBI agent is questioning the man caught on surveillance video Nancy Guthrie The case called the apparent combination of a semiautomatic pistol and a revolver-style polyester holster “extremely amateurish and unsafe.”
During an appearance on Fox News’ Hannity show, TMZ founder Harvey Levin said his team scrutinized recently released surveillance video and believed the suspect was carrying a semiautomatic handgun inside a soft polyester holster commonly associated with revolvers.
“Typically, someone who has a polyester holster will carry a revolver inside,” Levine told Sean Hannity Wednesday night. “In this case, it was a semi-automatic handgun.”
Levine admitted he was not a firearms expert, but firearms experts told him the pairing was unusual. He said TMZ began contacting shooting ranges in the Tucson area to see if anyone recalled spotting someone with what he said was a mismatched device.
“We found nothing,” Levin said, adding that the FBI and Sheriff’s Department were conducting similar investigations.

Former FBI agent says ‘extremely amateurish and unsafe’
Former FBI agent John Nantz told Fox News Digital that the holster appeared to be inappropriate and possibly unsafe.
“The holster is clearly not suitable for a semi-automatic handgun,” Nantz said. “This is very amateurish and unsafe. The gun can easily fall out of the holster. No one with even minimal training or experience would carry a gun in this manner.”

Law enforcement experts say five key clues seen in surveillance footage obtained from Nancy Guthrie’s home could reveal the identities of people who approached her Arizona home. (FBI)
Nantz pointed out Trained professionals A semi-automatic pistol is usually carried in a molded Kydex or leather holster designed for the specific firearm model and equipped with a retention system to hold the weapon in place.
Kydex holsters are hard plastic styles often used by police that are designed to “snap” or lock into place, while leather holsters are often shaped to fit a specific firearm, said Jason Pack, a retired FBI surveillance agent.

“I’ve never seen anyone carry a holster like this before,” Parker said, adding that the holster seemed inconsistent with the strict, model-specific holsters commonly used by law enforcement.
Parker also noted that cheap nylon or polyester holsters are widely available at big box retailers and are often used by civilian gun owners.
Authorities have not publicly said whether the holster configuration is at the center of their investigation.
