as a Fantasy Premier League Head coach, you have a lot to think about, from planning your squad in pre-season to choosing your starting lineup, picking your captains and making transfers every week.
However, there are also a number of chips that can be used throughout FPL campaigns that can earn you more points or transform your team, and a brand new Assistant Manager chip for 2025 was recently released.
But how and when will the new chip, and all the other chips available, be available? Football FanCast View all FPL chips and their meanings.

Bench promotion
There’s nothing worse than leaving a ton of points on the bench when your starting lineup isn’t performing well. However, the “Bench Boost” chip allows you to earn these points at some point during the season.
If you activate it before a game week, your substitutes’ scores will be included in your total, many FPL owners will wait until late in the season for a double game week to activate the chip.

free blow
Have your team had enough and just want a complete overhaul in one game week? Then the “Free Hit” chip is what you’re after.
If you have multiple injuries, suspensions or a tricky-looking schedule in your squad, you can make unlimited transfers without losing points in a gameweek.
Likewise, biweekly competition is a good time to deploy Free Hit chips. Alternatively, there are sometimes weeks when only a few teams are playing, usually when cup competitions clash with Premier League weekends. If most of your squad is unavailable, a free hit might save you.
triple captain
As you’d expect, the “Triple Captain” chip causes your captain to gain three points in just one game.
Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland has been the first-choice captain of the FPL bosses for the 2024/25 season, having scored a number of hat-tricks at the start of the season.
However, holding on to your triple-captain chips for the final stages of the campaign can also pay off, especially if your star player has a compelling double-game week.

Wildcard
The “wildcard” chip is arguably one of the most important chips in FPL, with managers having access to two chips during the season.
If you’re tired of your current team, using wildcards allows you to make unlimited permanent transfers without deducting any points.
Previously, managers could only get one wildcard chip and one in January. This year, you can use one before Christmas and one after December 29th.
assistant
The new Assistant Manager Chip (previously nicknamed the Mystery Chip) now allows FPL bosses to use actual managers from the Premier League to earn them more points.
The chip can be activated once starting in January, and your chosen assistant will add points to you for three consecutive game weeks after going online.
However, they come at a price, expected to be between £500,000 and £1.5 million. Assistant managers will earn points based on wins, draws, clean sheets and goals scored, while bonus points can be awarded if they beat the top five teams in the Premier League table.
