Eurostar has warned of “severe delays” due to a power supply fault in the Channel Tunnel, which threatens to disrupt travel for thousands of travellers.
The train operator said on Tuesday that due to a problem with the “overhead power supply in the Channel Tunnel and a series of failed Le Shuttle trains”, it “strongly” advised all passengers to postpone their journey.
“We regret that the trains that were able to run had serious delays and eventual cancellations,” it added.
The UK’s National Rail has also warned passengers planning to travel on the route connecting London and Paris of the risk of delays and cancellations.
The disruption is likely to be felt by many as the Christmas and New Year periods are busy travel times.
The Le Shuttle system takes road vehicles through the Channel Tunnel connecting the two countries.
Eurostar and Eurotunnel, part of the Getlink group, did not immediately respond to requests for comment and further details.
