Eurostar passengers brace for more potential disruptions after Channel Tunnel blackout travel chaos Serving thousands of people on Tuesday.

As people rushed to attend New Year’s Eve celebrations, some travelers said they had spent more than six hours on trains as services were hit by more delays.

One man told the BBC he had boarded the 19:01 train to Paris, but as of 03:00 GMT he was still stuck on the train at the entrance to the tunnel.

He said staff told him “there was a 50 per cent chance of us going to Paris and a 50 per cent chance of getting back to London”.

“I think my New Year’s resolutions are now in the hands of the tunnel operators,” said the 27-year-old Parisian.

Eurostar said it planned to operate all services on Wednesday but warned some delays and cancellations were still possible.

The flight scheduled from London to Paris at 06:00 GMT has been has been cancelled.

Overhead power issues and faulty LeShuttle trains blocked all routes on Tuesday, cause interference Thousands of people tried to flee New Year’s Eve.

Some Eurostar and LeShuttle services resumed on Tuesday evening, but delays persisted, with only one of the tunnel’s two rail lines open.

Getlink, which operates the Channel Tunnel, said work was continuing throughout the night to resolve the power issue.

Wednesday morning, An update on the Eurostar website said: “Services have resumed today following yesterday’s electrical issues at the Channel Tunnel and some further issues with rail infrastructure overnight.

“We plan to run all services today but there may still be some delays due to knock-on effects and there may even be last minute cancellations.

“Please check the Train Status and Timetable page for live updates on train status.”

Denis van der Steen from the Netherlands was preparing to return home to Amsterdam to spend New Year’s Eve with family and friends.

Instead, he said he was stuck on the Eurostar train for six hours until it started moving again at around 03:00 GMT.

“We are in trouble,” he told the BBC.

He said there was no power on board when the train stopped and some passengers were sleeping while others “were also worried.” He was later told that his train would continue running.

Another passenger described hours of “an emotional roller coaster” not knowing whether his train would be able to continue across the Channel or return to London.

He said his train eventually arrived in Brussels, adding: “It’s great to be back home and see so many families trapped.”

Pictures of large numbers of travelers stranded at London’s St Pancras International Airport following Tuesday’s blackout flooded social media.

A photo shared with the BBC by a Eurostar train driver appeared to show overhead cables spread across the tracks.

Meanwhile, cars hoping to use the Channel Tunnel caused traffic jams near the LeShuttle terminal in Folkestone.

Tim Brown, who had been trying to return to the UK after spending Christmas in Germany, told PA News he was stuck in his car on the LeShuttle train for more than three hours “without food or water”.

As of midday on Tuesday, at least a dozen Eurostar services to and from the UK, France, Belgium and the Netherlands had been cancelled.

The rail operator apologized and said passengers could reschedule their plans for free, or they could cancel their bookings and receive a refund or e-voucher.

On Tuesday, Eurostar urged passengers to “rebook a day’s journey if possible and offer free exchanges”.

“We are also advising passengers not to come to our stations if their train has been cancelled.”
